A Clear Vision

Called by God, focused at Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, honed through Western Theological Seminary and dispatched by the Reformed Church in America, Gordon and Evon Laman served as missionaries to Japan for more than four decades.

A Clear VisionGordon D. Laman (A.B., B.D., Th.M., D.Min., D.D.) grew up in Muskegon, Michigan, with his roots in the Dutch Reformed tradition. From childhood, he struggled with a serious vision defect that threatened to restrict his career opportunities. But with the dint of hard work and the determination from a young age to serve as a missionary, he overcame these limitations.

Gordon graduated from Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø and Western Theological Seminary. Commissioned by the Reformed Church in America, he served for 43 years as a missionary in Japan, working entirely in Japanese. His duties variously included those of preacher, pastor and district evangelist. In the latter capacity, he developed media evangelism, Bible correspondence courses, and music evangelism.

Gordon served for 21 years on the faculty of Tokyo Union Theological Seminary as director of field education, which took him to churches throughout Japan. He also taught courses in Asian mission that necessitated travel with students to Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines. God was faithful, and the vision was realized.

This book is written in the first person out of Gordon’s rich memories of growing up in western Michigan and his 43 years of missionary life with his wife Evon.
